New single, "Blue Jacaranda (Sweet Tea).” This was recorded a couple of summers ago at my friend Yohei's house outside in his wife's garden in Mt. Washington, Los Angeles. I wrote it after one of my best friends from back home came to visit and things felt a little different between us because of all of the changes I was going through. It had been the toughest year of my life, and I was processing a lot of loss including the loss of home, the nostalgic south, as I'd moved across country. I was listening that summer to The Tree of Forgiveness by John Prine while grieving, and began to realize my relationship to the south was different than many of my older heroes'. I was letting go of some old ways and finding new directions. .

15,139 steps so far today. First hike of quarantine. Had to make up for lost time. Here’s tmi: When I was a kid we lived at the end of a dead end street, woods behind the house, with rolling hills and ponds and caves to explore. I was homeschooled the first few years and would try to get my homework done before noon so I could go outside and adventure often alone or with my older sister. So sick that this wilderness is so accessible here in LA. 25 minutes to the trailhead, back to childhood, this morning.

Vegas (4-track unmastered) ~ written and recorded in my LA apartment during corona quarantine on my friend's 4 track cassette tape recorder using my trusty Casio Casiotone MT-40 and an SM58 microphone. All this free time and anxiety on my hands felt like the right time to try something new (I’ve never really recorded myself before somehow ~ very lo-fi ~ apologies to audiophiles). Was a nice way to process this weird time. Enjoy.
